Behind a 21.5 inch sheet of nano-grade tempered glass sit the drivers, and across that same glass the lyrics of whatever is playing move in time with the music. Because the screen is genuinely transparent you can see through it to the wall behind, so the words appear to hang in the air in front of the drivers rather than sit on a panel. Built by REMAX in aluminium alloy and glass, it weighs 7.2 kg and is made to stay where you put it.

Why we chose it

The interesting part is not the screen, it is that the screen works at all. Speaker drivers throw a magnetic field, and a display sitting directly in front of one normally distorts. These drivers are magnetically shielded specifically so the glass in front of them stays clean, which is the engineering that makes the whole idea possible. Plenty of devices show lyrics on a screen. Very few put the screen and the speakers in the same plane and get away with it.

It is not only a speaker

Silence is the state it spends most of its life in, so that state was designed too. With nothing playing it becomes a clock, a slow photo frame running your own images, or a piece of ambient light on a shelf. The screen brightness runs from barely-there to full, so it can sit in a bedroom at night or a bright living room at midday without shouting. Ten white noise types cover rain, focus and sleep, which turns the same object into something you leave running while you work.

Living with it

It runs from the mains, so choose its place before you unbox it rather than after. The glass is the whole point of the object, so clean it the way you would clean a screen, with a dry microfibre cloth and nothing abrasive or solvent-based. Pair it over Bluetooth, then use the app once to set your language, sound profile and what it shows when nothing is playing. Software updates arrive over the air.
