Your music, finally something to look at.
Floating Lyrics Grand is not a speaker you tuck onto a shelf. It is a 72.5 cm black or white disc standing 92 cm tall on three solid wood legs, and the moment a track starts the centre lights up with the words. Lyrics scroll in time over a background you choose. When nothing is playing it becomes a flip clock, a photo frame, or simply a quiet dark circle in the corner of the room.
Why we chose it
We already sell a lyric speaker, and we were not looking for another one. What changed our mind was the scale. Most lyric speakers are desk objects, roughly the size of a picture frame, and they read as a gadget. This one reads as furniture. At nearly a meter tall on turned wooden legs it holds a room the way a floor lamp or an armchair does, and the display is large enough to be legible from the sofa rather than something you lean in to squint at.
The sound had to justify the footprint, and it does. Three-way, five drivers, one sealed cabinet, with the maker rating the large model at 220 W and the small at 170 W across a 10-inch bass driver, two midranges and two tweeters. Not a single full-range cone behind a screen, which is what most of this category actually is.
About the screen
There is a 19-inch LCD panel inside, and the round window you actually see is 29 cm across. Both numbers are true, and we would rather give you both than have you measure it yourself. The circular aperture is cut from the panel, which is why the two figures differ.
Key features
- Lyrics in real time from Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music, over a background and font you pick yourself
- 19-inch LCD panel behind a 29 cm circular window, bright enough to read across a living room
- Three-way sound, five drivers, one sealed cabinet. The maker rates the large model at 220 W total, from a 120 W 10-inch bass driver, two 30 W midranges and two 20 W tweeters. The small model is rated 170 W
- Bluetooth 5.4 and dual-band WiFi on 2.4 and 5 GHz
- Android 10 with 2 GB of memory and 16 GB of storage
- Screen mirroring from your phone, so a music video or anything else on screen plays out on the disc
- Standby clocks, a photo album and a library of white noise scenes for when the music stops
- Solid wood legs. Walnut with the black cabinet, white oak with the white
- Interface in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Russian and Arabic, with full time zone support
- Large: 72.5 cm across, 92 cm tall on its legs, 17.6 kg. Small: 62 cm across, 13.6 kg
- Mains powered through the included 24 V adapter. No battery, no microphone
- In the box: speaker, three solid wood legs, power cable, manual
- CE, FCC and RoHS certified
Living with it
The lyrics feature needs WiFi. Bluetooth on its own will play your music beautifully, but the words on screen come over your network, so the Grand wants to sit within reach of your router. It runs on mains power rather than a battery, so it lives in one place rather than moving from room to room.
The three legs screw into the base and take about five minutes with no tools. The large model is 17.6 kg and the small is 13.6 kg, so it is a two-person lift out of the box and a one-person job to position once it is standing. There is no microphone, so it does not listen to the room.
