Carbon Fibre and Titanium Case Kit for Apple Watch Ultra 49mm, Gold Plated Finish

A luxury sports watch case, and your Apple Watch Ultra is the movement.

This is a two-part modification kit. A forged carbon fibre top cover over a gold plated titanium frame, a fluororubber strap, and a gold plated stainless steel butterfly clasp. It fits over an Apple Watch Ultra you already own and turns it into something that reads as a machined timepiece rather than a smartwatch.

Why we chose it

Most modification kits in this category are carbon-look plastic with a metal foot, because the foot is the part that appears in the photographs. This one is built the other way round. The top cover is genuine forged carbon, the structural frame underneath it is titanium, and the clasp is a real butterfly deployant rather than a pin buckle. Those are three separate material decisions that cost money and do not photograph obviously, which is usually a good sign.

The carbon

Forged carbon is made by compression moulding chopped carbon tow rather than weaving a sheet, so the fibres settle randomly under pressure and every cover comes out with a different marble. Gold flake is suspended in the resin. Yours will not look exactly like the photographs, and it will not look exactly like anyone else's.

The titanium

The frame that carries the load is titanium with a gold plated finish, which is why the whole assembly weighs 96.6 g including the strap. The finished case measures 57.0 mm tall, 56.0 mm wide and 15.5 mm thick, so it wears noticeably larger than a bare Ultra. That is the point.

The strap and the clasp

Fluororubber, the same family used for high-end dive and motorsport straps, chosen for its resistance to heat, oils and UV rather than for cost. It adjusts from 160 to 220 mm. The butterfly deployant clasp is gold plated stainless steel, folds flat, and means you stop threading a tail through a keeper every morning.

Fitting it

The case separates into a front bezel and a rear plate held by star head screws. Your watch sits between them. A driver and spare screws are in the box, so you need nothing of your own, and the whole job takes a few minutes. It is fully reversible: unscrew it and your watch goes back to standard.

Please note

This kit fits the 49 mm Apple Watch Ultra, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3. It does not fit the 41, 45 or 46 mm models.

Living with it

Wipe the carbon and the plating with a soft dry cloth. Avoid solvents and alcohol wipes on the gold. The fluororubber is the easy part: warm water and a cloth. Check the case screws every few weeks, the same way you would on any screwed bezel.
