A full-size Bluetooth speaker that runs from the mains at home and off its own battery when the evening moves outside 20 W across a pair of drivers, reaching down to 60 Hz for bass you feel rather than just hear. Plug in a microphone and it becomes the karaoke machine too.

Most speakers this size are mains-tethered, and most battery speakers are small enough to be polite. This one refuses the choice: plug it in for a party at home, unplug it and carry it to a terrace or a garden without the sound thinning out. The cabinet is large enough to give the low end somewhere to move, and the 60 Hz–23 kHz range covers the bottom of a bass line through to the top of a cymbal. It also takes a microphone wired through the 3.5 mm jack or wireless over Bluetooth which turns the same box into karaoke without buying a second machine. Bluetooth 5.0 connects quickly and holds a stable link across a room, and a USB input means a stick of music works when a phone is flat.
